PRESS RELEASE . Nashville, April 5, 2008

Pathfinder Therapeutics Inc. (PTI) announced today that it will exhibit its investigational liver surgery platform for the first time at the annual meeting of the American Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (AHPBA), April 19-22 in Las Vegas.  At this year’s meeting, AHPBA is running in conjunction with the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES).

The company's technology, which is not approved by the FDA for sale in the United States , has progressed rapidly with the help of NIH-NCI grant monies.  With the first grant, a versatile open architecture software platform has been developed. A three site clinical trial will likely begin by mid 2007 with money received from the second grant: “Commercialization of Image Guided Liver Surgery”.

Image Guided Surgery (IGS) technology has been commercially available for various other applications (such as brain surgery) for over a decade.  Pathfinder Therapeutics has taken some of the principles of traditional IGS and solved other key challenges to enable surgery on abdominal organs, such as the liver.

"The key to advancing surgery is to offer surgeons technology that truly breaks new ground," said Paul MacDonald, PTI’s Chief Executive Officer. "Our platform will eventually allow surgeons to take an acquired CT or MRI image and use it to plan their surgery. Then, once the procedure is underway, they can use the PTI system to track tools in realtime as they move in and around the liver.”

By offering enhanced surgical vision and precision, the PTI system hopes to become another tool the surgeon can use to address the complexities of surgery in critical organs, such as the liver. “The AHPBA meeting is our first major conference. We are excited to have the opportunity to show surgeons and potential partners the capabilities of PTI’s technology” MacDonald added.
