Bob Galloway
Robert L. Galloway, Jr. is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering, a Professor of Neurologic Surgery, and a Professor of Surgery at Vanderbilt University. In addition, he serves as the Director of the Center for Technology-Guided Therapy. Dr. Galloway earned the BSE from Duke University in 1977, the ME from the University of Virginia in 1979 and the PhD from Duke in 1983, all in Biomedical Engineering. He teaches courses in Medical Instrumentation, Medical Imaging and a new course in Therapeutic Bioengineering. He won the School of Engineering Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2003, the Mortarboard (Senior Honor Society) Professor of the Year award in 1998, the University-wide Madison Sarratt Prize for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching in 1992, the Engineering Council Professor of the Year Award in 1990, and the Tau Beta Pi Award for Teaching Excellence in 1988. Dr. Galloway's research entails the design of systems for Interactive, Image-Guided Surgery (a term he coined in 1988) and Technology-Guided Therapy. He has published 70 manuscripts in refereed journals, six book chapters, edited two books and presented results of his work at over 90 scientific meetings. In addition he holds 9 US and international patents on devices arising from his research. Dr. Galloway has been the Principal Investigrator or co-PI on approximately $6 million peer reviewed grants since 1988.
